Onboarding and Early Training in Anaesthesiology – Survey

An effective onboarding program immerses new anaesthesiology residents in departmental standards, clinical protocols, and professional culture. By combining classroom orientation, supervised clinical practice, and stepwise skills training, it guides residents safely from observation to independent patient care. A thorough, supportive start fosters confidence, patient safety, and strong teamwork; when onboarding is fragmented or unclear, residents may experience anxiety, knowledge gaps, and slower professional growth.

This questionnaire explores how anaesthesiology residents across Europe perceive the quality of their early training and onboarding. It aims to identify which program elements most successfully build competence and integration, highlight common barriers, and examine the downstream effects, both positive and negative, on resident performance and well-being.

The survey contains 35 questions and takes about 10–15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary and anonymous; by continuing you give your consent to take part.

For this survey, “onboarding” refers to the initial training and orientation residents receive when they begin their role, including introductions to program expectations, procedures, systems, and culture that help them transition smoothly into their new responsibilities.

An ethical waiver was received by the University of Oldenburg (04.07.2025, 2025-138).
